How do study rooms work?

Answer

Group Study Room Guidelines

Purpose:

The primary purpose of group study rooms is to provide a place for students to engage in collaborative study in small groups.

Booking a Room:

Rooms are available on a first-come first-served basis. Permanent assignments or reservations are not available.

Room Capacity:

Each campus group study room will be limited to a designated capacity which will differ at each campus depending on the room size.  Room capacity will be posted at each door.

Policies and Practices:

Reservations are limited to a total of 2 hours per person per day. Requests for additional time will be handled on a case-by-case basis at a library service desk.

Academic groups or College-sanctioned social organizations may occupy an empty room but will be asked to leave at the request of a student group.

To check out a room every member of the group must provide a current college or government issued picture ID at the service desk upon arrival. The group will be banned from check out and group study privileges if a group member is found in a room without checking out a seat in the room.

A student found alone in a group study room will be asked to leave immediately.  All possessions left in the room will be considered lost and taken to the campus police station.

Drinks with a cap are allowed. Lunches/meals/party food are not allowed in the rooms. College representatives reserve the right to discern what constitutes a “snack”.  Students with lunches/meals/party food will be asked to leave the group study room immediately.  College representatives reserve the right to report the incident to the Dallas College Code of Conduct team. In addition to a code of conduct review students may lose library check out and group study privileges.

Lights must remain on.

Quiet, collaborative voices should be used in the group study rooms. If the group’s noise level disrupts other students in the library the group will be asked to leave immediately.  College representatives reserve the right to report the incident of individual group members to the Dallas College Code of Conduct team. Students may also lose library privileges for a week.

Students not using the room for study purposes will be asked to leave immediately. College representatives reserve the right to report the incident of individual group members to the Dallas College Code of Conduct team. Students may also lose check out and group study library privileges.

Monitors are for academic use only.  Using the monitors for video games, music or any other recreational use is not allowed. Students who violate the rule will be asked to leave immediately. College representatives reserve the right to report the incident of individual group members to the Dallas College Code of Conduct team. Students may also lose check out and group study library privileges.

Students checking out the room will be held financially responsible for any damage. Replacement fees will be assessed for any damaged equipment. Cases of deliberate vandalism or abuse will result in the loss of library privileges and a report will be filed with Campus and the Dallas College Code of Conduct team. It is the student’s responsibility to examine the room and report problems to a service desk employee within 15 minutes of checking out a room.

The Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of private property. If you leave the room unattended you risk the loss of your possessions. If a room is left unattended for longer than 15 minutes any item(s) in the room will be considered lost and will be delivered to Campus Police.

Rooms should be left tidy for the next group. Clean up the room before you leave. This includes clearing tables of trash items, erasing white boards, and putting chairs back under the table.

Study rooms must be vacated 15 minutes before closing.

The Library retains the right to ask a group to terminate their stay.
